Statistics and Finance with Graphing Calculators

This course is meant for college students that have finance and statistics subjects and that own a Texas Instruments graphinc calculator with financial calculus and advanced statistics (all models except some older ones).

The course can be organized in two different models:

  • 3 hour demonstration
  • 12 hour course (4 sessions of 3h each)

Each session of the 12 hour courses is mostly practical, with participants solving several exercises on the calculator, as we explore more and more tools. In a 3 hour demonstration the same topics are ilustrated with examples but without the practical component.

Contents:

  1. Financial calculus: interests, depreciations, internal rate of return, time value of money;
  2. Descriptive statistics: mean, median, standard deviation and variance; Linear regression;
  3. Statistical plots; probability distributions;
  4. Hypothesis testing and confidence intervals.

In a 3h demonstration most topics will be explored in a lighter way and some might be suppressed.

How to attend?

Usually I perform training courses only in Portugal. If, however, you'd like to have this course at your school, even in a foreign country, have your school or your students association contact me to see if it can be arranged.
